News from Horizons Unlimited How To Set Up A Bequest? To set up a bequest, you simply designate a specific amount to be transferred as a gift for either general or defined use. Such a gift can take the form of cash, stocks, real estate, autos or any other type of asset. All such charitable transfers are deductible for federal estate tax purposes. This often makes it possible to give a larger gift at a lower cost. A planned gift to Horizons Unlimited will help assure that the future needs of adults with disabilities will continue to be met throughout the upcoming years. Employment Application Announcements: EMMETSBURG - Horizons Unlimited will kick off a new donation program July 5, 2006. On July 5, Horizons will start encouraging customers of the Bottle & Can Redemption Center to donate one cent back to Horizons for each bottle and can redeemed. Horizons Unlimited started in 1966 when a program was started for adults with disabilities in the basement of Mr. and Mrs. Kermit Reeves. Horizons Unlimited was federally incorporated in 1969. Since then, Horizons’ program has expanded to include many services for the public, including recycling, catering, embroidery and silk screening (known as Creative Stitches), Supported Employment and the Bottle & Can Redemption Center. Each of these services was started to provide work opportunities for the individuals Horizons serves and to provide an additional source of income for Horizons Unlimited. “Unfortunately, as of now, the Bottle & Can Redemption Center is actually costing Horizons money,” said Ron Ludwig, C.E.O. of Horizons. He added, “Each year, Horizons Unlimited loses thousands of dollars by operating the redemption center. We have been waiting for the legislature to make necessary changes in the Bottle Bill, but since this hasn’t happened, Horizons thought we would encourage customers to donate a cent back to us. If every customer did this, the Redemption Center would actually break even for us.” Horizons Unlimited operates the only full time bottle and can redemption and recycling facilities in Palo Alto, Kossuth, Emmet and Pocahontas Counties. The hours for the Bottle & Can Redemption Facility are: 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday; 9:00 a.m. – Noon on Fridays and 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. on Saturdays. |
